The other day I had set up at my usual sunset taking place that overlooks the city when I heard some buzzing along the water. A week or so ago there were some people talking on Facebook about annoying racing boats making noise in the bay. I laughed when I first saw people complaining because this noise use to be constant in the bay back in the 1970’s and 1980’s but if you are under 30 you had no idea what it was. I found that funny.
At the time I had no idea who was driving the boats or anything but since he was buzzing around the bay I figure I would take some shots. After I was done I knew I had a picture that will one of my favorites of all time.
The guy driving the boat in the picture is a NYC firefighter that is in the video below. Even though it isn’t the sharpest picture in the world I just love how it speaks to me. It says yes we will rebuild, we will remember and honor the lives that were lost by having the freedom to do what we want like racing boats if we want to.
Before you look at the photo look at this video. One of the guys is driving the racing boat in the picture. I watched this video probably a few weeks ago so it was fresh in my mind.
I have probably taken over 1000 pictures of the Freedom Tower but I felt honored to take this picture.
A good picture is one that makes someone trigger an emotion. A great picture is one that makes the photographer have an emotion. In this case it is pride.
