On Saturday I went to the Super Tuner car and motorcycle show. While I went to shoot pictures of classic cars I ended up shooting a motorcycle stunt show. The sun was killer and I could only shoot facing in 2 directions but that didn’t stop me. My camera was not set up to do action shots and it took me a while to adjust the camera but when I did I got some pretty amazing shots of motorcycle stunt drivers. Below is Combat Barbie who was doing some amazing tricks with her bike.
My years of taking pictures at NASCAR races came in handy as one of the bikes was coming right at me on one wheel. In the zoom lens it looked like he was already in my lap but I knew better. I was standing behind a light pole at the perfect angle so even if it was near me it would of hit the pole first.
Then he turned around right near me where his buddy poured some water on the back tire and made it slick for a burnout. Of course this sent water all over the camera with burnt rubber, exactly what you don’t want on your camera but it cleaned right off. On a side note look at the guy laying down to take pictures on the course. If you are taking pictures at any event you should never be in the way. With any zoom lens he could get the same pictures from 5 feet away. One of the bikes almost hit him.
I think this was my favorite picture of the day because it shows action and something out of the ordinary. How often doing you see someone doing a wheelie with his eyes covered.
It was a lot of fun and something different to do these shots. I met a lot of cool bikers and I look to be doing more sports shots here on the site. To get one of these pics or see more from the show head over to our gallery at Loxly Gallery.
