Today we took a break and headed over to the Gilbert Water Ranch to see the Tricolored Heron that has flown in and is causing a stir among the birders that visit the park. We walked around in 102 degree heat until I saw a birder that let me know he was in one of the back ponds. When we got there he was hanging out with snowy egrets who were also looking for lunch.
He was trying very hard to beat the snowy egrets to the huge serving of lunch and he was much faster than the other birds.
After awhile the egrets and other birds started to get fiesty when the Tricolored Heron was beating them to lunch. Here is a couple that decided to do kung foo on each other.
It was a great day for birding except for the heat. Wish there was a cool breeze but none was to be found.
